NAPA, Calif. – Community Service Organization (CSO) North Bay is a grassroots Chicane organization performing “Barrio Walks,” walking through neighborhoods, monitoring for ICE activity, and handing out “know your rights” pamphlets and cards to community members.
For one year now, community organizer Aldo Solano, and other CSO members have been walking through Napa neighborhoods to inform community members on their rights and advocating for a city sanctuary ordinance.
On Sunday, May 17, CSO North Bay members met at Mi Familia Market in Napa to rally up, fold pamphlets, and discuss the day’s route.
During Sunday’s walk through the La Laurel community in Napa, Solano encouraged community members to attend an upcoming Napa City council meeting on May 19 and to demand a real sanctuary city ordinance with zero cooperation with ICE, zero use of city buildings or property for ICE operations and zero use of cameras and surveillance tech.
“A Sanctuary city holds real benefits,” said Solano, “Some people say it’s symbolic, but even if it is symbolic, there’s power in letting people know the city [has] your back.”
