FAIRFIELD, Calif – Community members rallied and demanded justice for 16-year-old Maurice Williams at Fairfield City Hall earlier this week, after videos circulated online showing Fairfield Police Officer Bianca Camacho aggressively and repeatedly beating the highschooler’s head on the pavement at Fairfield High School.
The Fairfield Police Department in a press release on Wednesday said that Camacho’s actions were a “distraction strike” in order to detain Williams.
The rally demanded the firing and de-certification of officer Bianca Camacho – not just relocating her to a different police precinct.
At one point during Tuesday’s tense city hall meeting, Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy said, “This is why we don’t do this in public, because you have haters.”
Berry Accius is a community advocate and founder of ‘Voice of the Youth’. He helped organize the rally alongside Williams’ family.
“I’m thankful that in that moment he survived police brutality even though the humiliation, the trauma, the abuse – he’s going to have to live with forever,” said Accius in an interview with North Bay Vanguard.
“The only thing I feel that gives [Maurice] some type of victory is the removal of Bianca Camacho from the Fairfield Police Department as well as a de-certification.”
